Yamaha StageMix app receives rapturous reception at PLASA 2010

Sep. 27, 2010

Yamaha Commercial Audio enjoyed a highly successful PLASA2010, with the company’s brand new StageMix iPad app enjoying an enthusiastic response from audio professionals. Coupled with the debut for Macintosh editor software for the M7CLV3 and LS9, the company’s stand was a highlight for the many audio professionals who have asked for more compatibility with Apple products.

With all three software products confirmed as being made available at no cost, interest levels were naturally high.

“Our philosophy is to introduce products that users want and have asked for,” says Karl Christmas, Deputy General Manager of Yamaha Commercial Audio (UK). “There are thousands of Yamaha digital mixing consoles out there and the highest priorities on user ‘wants lists’ were facilities to make use of them more efficiently.”

Featuring a straightforward, intuitive graphic interface and the iPad’s multi-touch and gesture control, StageMix uses the device’s built-in WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n) functionality to directly control a Yamaha M7CL48-ES, via a wireless connection point linked to the mixing console via Cat5 cable.

Karl continues, “I spoke to many people at PLASA who said, without prompting, that StageMix was the highlight of the show for them. A number also said that they were grateful that we had given them the perfect excuse to finally buy an iPad!”

He adds, with tongue firmly in cheek, “Maybe Apple should give us a few shares for increasing iPad sales?”

The new M7CLV3 and LS9 editors for Macintosh also received a great deal of attention. Both are run from within the latest version of Studio Manager V2 Host (V2.3.3), which provides unparalleled flexibility, allowing the user to control several separate Yamaha consoles, both online and offline, simultaneously from within the same environment.

Also on show were Yamaha’s new DSR loudspeakers, being seen in the UK for the first time, and the MY8-SDI-ED audio embed/de-embed card for the broadcast industry, displayed as part of the stand’s central feature, which showcased the wide selection of MY series cards that are available.
