How can I expand the mic inputs of the M7CL-48ES?

There are several ways to expand the mic inputs of the M7CL-48ES:

-Use the MLA8, 8 channel head-amp, in combination with the MY8-AD96 card.
This is the simplest way to expand the mic inputs.

-Use the AD8HR, 8 channel head-amp and AD converter, in combination with the MY8-AE card, etc.
This method allows you to remote-control the head-amp gain from the M7CL-48ES, and change the settings with a scene recall.

-Use the SB168-ES stage box in combination with theMY16-ES64 card.
This method, requiring only a single CAT5e cable to connect between the SB168-ES and M7CL-48ES, dramatically improves the flexibility of the layout. You can also remote-control the head-amp as with the case of using the AD8HR (M7CL-48ES with firmware V3.5 or after).

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

I need a lot of MIX buses to use the M7CL as a monitor console. Can I expand the number of the MIX bus?

On the M7CL, you can route the input channel signal to the 8MATRIX buses directly. This function allows you to use the MATRIX bus as another MIX bus, and use the M7CL as a mixer with 24MIX buses.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

I want to route the audio from the MIX bus to 10 or more other locations by adjusting each mix balance. If 8MATRIX buses of the M7CL are not enough, how do I do?

Basically you cannot have more than 8 MATRIX buses on the M7CL, but using the Digital Mixing Engine such as DME64N or DME24N, etc together with the M7CL allows you to flexibly expand the function of your system. The following is an example of a setup procedure to expand the MATRIX buses:

  1. Install the same type of MY card (MY16-AE for example) to each card slot of the M7CL and DME64N, and then connect between the M7CL and DME64N using an AES-EBU cable.
  2. Make a configuration which contains a matrix mixer component as required (16in x 32out mixer for example) and do synchronization with DME64N hardware.
  3. On the OUTPUT PORT setting screen of the M7CL, route the desired MIX channel to output from the slot out.
  4. Using the matrix mixer in the DME, branch the audio input from the M7CL to the required number of outputs.

When I am using M7CL to mix monitors where do I connect my listen wedge?

To route the monitor bus to an Omni out on the back of M7CL, press the headphone MONITOR icon in the Function Access panel. This produces the MONITOR pop-up from which you can access the Monitor out routing page by pressing the grey [---] button below the meter. The pop-up menu OUTPUT CH SELECT appears and from here you can select [MONITOR OUT] tab and [MONI L]. Repeat this for [MONI R] and [MONI C] if required.

If you are using a single mono listen wedge then mono up cue signals with [MONO MONITOR] button. This can be found on the [MONITOR] screen, accessed by the headphones icon on the right side of any screen.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

Is there a delay available on the headphone feed?

Yes. This is to time align the headphones to the main PA when the FOH position is along way from the stage

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

Is the talkback head amp gain memorable & controllable?

Yes and no! There is a dedicated talkback input on the front edge of M7CL with a non-recallable gain and a second talkback input from the input patch menu which is recallable by scene. The talkback can be routed to any output; this routing is not recallable by scene.

Data Files

A file created offline using the M7CL Editor cannot be loaded in the M7CL console. What would be the cause?

Check the following points:

- Does your file have an extension ".M7C"?
Although M7CL Editor can save data in the form of .YSE or YSM, you can save/load data in the form of .M7C only on M7CL console. To load your file on M7CL console, save the file in the form of .M7C using M7CL Editor.

- Did you save your file in the form of .M7C through "File" menu > "Save session"?
There are 2 types in .M7C file format. One is a "Session file" that includes all settings data of M7CL. The other is a "Library file" that has only a specific library category. Session files can be created through "File"menu >"Save session" on M7CL Editor. Library files can be created on the Library window. If only a part of the library is loaded when you try to load .M7C file on M7CL console, it is possible that the file has been created in the Library file format.

- Is the version of the M7CL Editor that created your file compatible with M7CL console?
A file saved on newer versions of M7CL Editor cannot be loaded on old console firmware. For details on the combinations that have assured compatibility, please refer to the following page:

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

Is there data compatibility between the M7CL-32, M7CL-48, and M7CL-48ES?

  1. Data compatibility between M7CL-32 and M7CL-48 Files made in one size console can be opened in the other size. If a 48 size file is opened in a M7CL-32, the higher number channels are ignored. The data is not lost even if the file is re-saved and returned to a 48 size.
  2. M7CL-32/48 and M7CL-48ES with SB168-ES file Files between these models are compatible without changes. But if you created a file using M7CL-32/48 with MY16-ES64 and MY16-EX cards and SB168-ES stageboxes, use the "STAGE BOX DATA CONVERSION" feature to convert the head-amp settings and patch settings. The STAGE BOX CONVERSION feature can be accessed from the SAVE/LOAD page of the M7CL, or System Setup dialog of the M7CL Editor.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

Can I use the data created in M7CL V1/V2 on V3? Can I use the data created in V3 on V1/V2?

M7CL data has backward compatibility. The data created in M7CL V1/V2 can be loaded in M7CL V3, but data created in M7CL V3 cannot be loaded in M7CL V1/V2. .YSE file created in M7CL Editor and .M7C file created in the M7CL console are both backward compatible with V1/V2 files.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

I want to copy some specific data (such as Scenes, EQ library, or Effect library) created on a M7CL console to another M7CL console. How do I do?

Using M7CL Editor, you can create a library file (M7C file format) that includes only a specific library category, such as EQ library. You can load the library file on M7CL console, or merge the data with an existing session file on M7CL Editor. For details, please refer to "M7CL V3 Quick Start Guide Part3"in the Yamaha Proaudio Self Training page.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

What will M7CL do to other kinds of files on my USB device? Can it recognise PM5D files?

M7CL will just ignore them as "unknown" file types. M7CL only recognises .M7C scene data files, M7U user key files and .PGM files which contain the M7CL firmware. It is not possible to transfer files from M7CL to other Yamaha mixers or visa versa.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

How do I know when file transfer has finished and it is safe to remove the USB device?

You can plug in the device at any time and remove it without any kind of unmounting procedure. However you should not rapidly remove the key after insertion or remove the USB device whilst data is being transferred. You can tell that the device is transferring data because M7CL will indicate ACCESS in the top left corner and the device led will flash rapidly.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

How big are M7CL data files? How many megabytes do I need to have free in a USB storage device?

User Key files (.M7U) are only about 30KB. An "all data" file (.M7C) with many scenes stored will be around 6 or 7MB. So, even a very small USB storage device like 32MB could store all the data for several shows.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

Is there a compatible/incompatible USB memory list for M7CL?

Yes.
There is a compatible/incompatible USB memory list for M7CL and LS9 on the following website

Security

What is Administrator mode?

M7CL can be set up to prevent access to certain features such as output or effects routing or even master fader level. In administrator mode all features can be accessed, passwords set and USB user keys created.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

What features can be locked out?

The screen shows the features you can independently lock-out, down to an individual channel! Suggested uses are to lock-out the output patch and System Setup in an installation or the master faders to limit over all volume. Remember different User Key holders can have different access privileges.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

What is Guest mode?

As default the guest mode is the same as the administrator mode, but the administrator can lock out certain features from the guest and the guest can have their own preferences selected from the USER SETUP menu. By applying a password to the administrator mode the guest is prevented from unlocking the restricted features. Typically the guest would be restricted from all internal re-patching, bus configurations, and access to the outport setup pages.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

What is External User Key mode?

In between the access levels of guest and administrator you can create key holders. Key holders could be given extra access such as the ability to re-patch but not the ability to pass this access onto the guest. The key is a file held on USB memory device.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

Is it possible to unlock the console if I lose my USB key?

M7CL is always unlocked by selecting "Administrator" mode and no USB key is necessary. If the administrator forgets the password the console must be initialized. This process involves powering down M7CL and restarting with special key presses, obviously audio will be interrupted and all stored data will be lost.

How durable is the touchscreen?

M7CL touchscreen is designed to be touched! It is similar to the screens used in supermarket checkouts and fastfood stores where many thousands of repeated presses cause no problem. If you press the screen in the same spot 200 times a day, for 300 days in a year then the screen should last 150 years.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

Can I adjust sensitivity of touchscreen?

The pressure sensitivity is fixed but you can recalibrate the area that is sensitive if your touch does not appear to press the button.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

Can I operate the touchscreen with devices other than my finger? (eraser on the top of a pencil, a ball point pen, screwdriver...)

The touch screen works on pressure sensing and is designed for finger presses. Sharp objects should be avoided as these could damage the screen surface and prevent operation.

Studio Manager

What are the advantages of the M7CL Editor?

One of the great advantages of M7CL editor is that you can configure the console; that is choose the routing, GEQ, effects and dynamics, do the naming and even configure a rough mix all on your computer away from the console. Instead of going to the M7CL for half a day with patch cables, you can do the work at home or simply recall a previously used version. Naming channels for example can be much quicker with a PC keyboard.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

After the connection between StageMix and M7CL is established, it's occasionally lost. What should be checked?

Check the following points:

- Is Wi-Fi signal strong enough? Please confirm the Wi-Fi icon in the status bar of the iPad. If the iPad is far from the wireless access point or if there are some interfering barriers inbetween, it may be required to install some wireless LAN extenders.

- Are there any other wireless access points within a short distance? If those access points are using the same or nearby wireless channels, they may possibly interfere each other. Especially in 2.4GHz band, the frequency range for each channel is very close, so it is recommended to configure the wireless access point and use appropriate wireless channels. Usually, choosing channel 1, 6 or 11 can avoid interference. Furthermore, it is recommended to use Wi-Fi checker/scanner to monitor the surrounding situation of radio waves.

 - Are there any microwave oven or Bluetooth device being used nearby? The 2.4GHz radio waves that those devices are emitting may interfere the radio signals for wireless LAN.
From radio interference point of view, therefore, wireless access points supporting 5GHz(*) band have advantages.
Meanwhile, when going through barriers, more radio intensity is lost with 5GHz compared to that of 2.4GHz. Therefore it is required to select the appropriate band, considering the environment and purpose.
*Please note that 5GHz band may not be allowed to use under certain conditions, depending on the radio laws.

- It is reported that the connection between StageMix on iOS5 and M7CL can be unstable and occasionally disconnected. As for the countermeasure, please refer to the following page.

Was this FAQ helpful to you?

How can I determine which IP address to be assigned to M7CL and iPad?

It is necessary to consult with your network administrator when determining IP addresses of M7CL and iPad , so that it conforms to the network policy. If there is no administer, please assign the address considering the following points.

- Assign the address which never overlaps with those of other PCs, DMEs or Mixers connected to the same network.

- If a DHCP server is running in the LAN, assign to M7CL the address that is not delivered automatically by the DHCP server.

- Please match the network address part of IP address between the M7CL and the iPad. The network address corresponds to the first three digits when their subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0.

- When building a dedicated network for M7CL and StageMix that never connects to other networks, generally a private address such as "192.168.xxx.yyy" would be chosen.
